Hi everyone,
ETS has recently announced new changes coming to the TOEFL iBT content and format starting July 26th, 2023. Here is the official announcement about the changes coming to the TOEFL iBT, posted on April 11th, 2023: https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt-enhancements.html
What’s changing about the TOEFL iBT?
Here is the list of changes you can expect on the new TOEFL iBT:
- TOEFL iBT will take under 2 hours to complete
- No more dummy questions — all unscored test questions are removed
- No more independent writing task — it will be replaced with a new writing question type, which is yet to be announced.
- The integrated writing task remains as is.
- Reading section has only 2 passages
- More payment methods will be available in local currencies.
How different will the TOEFL iBT be after July 2023?
Here’s a before and after chart to show the differences between TOEFL iBT Sections before July 2023 vs. after July 2023:
Will the new TOEFL be graded differently?
There are no changes to the grading rubric, so for everything except the new writing task that’s coming they will be scored based on the same standards.
Can I reschedule my TOEFL iBT?
ETS is offering free reschedules through your ETS account until April 30th, 2023. For more information, go to https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt-enhancements.html
