TestGlider SAT tutoring review!

Before: I started preparing for the SAT too late, with a lack of knowledge and experience in Digital SAT. My schoolwork and self-study did not help a lot for my SAT preparation. Especially, my weakness was English.

After: After taking a short SAT tutoring session at TestGlider, my score increased by 180 points on a SAT mock test! My tutor taught me, some efficient strategies.

Q: Please introduce yourself and your target college.

I’m an 11th grader in a private school in the U.S. I transferred to a high school in Texas. I aim to enter the University of Texas at Austin for Computer Science.

Q: Why do you want to study in the U.S.?

I studied for one year in an elementary school in Canada and loved its free atmosphere. Also, I heard that it is better to learn Computer Science in the U.S.

Q: How are you preparing for the U.S. college application process?

I plan to take my first SAT this November this year. I want to finish the SAT this year and focus solely on AP Calculus BC. My target score is 1400. If I fail to get the score, I’ll retake it next year. As for extracurricular activities, I play soccer and basketball. I also did an internship last winter.

Q: When did you start studying for the SAT? How did you prepare for it?

Before I started preparing for the test, I memorized 40 new words and read the New York Times articles daily. I started studying for the SAT this July, which is a bit late. The SAT prep class at school was not very helpful. There were too many students, and the class level did not fit.

Q: What difficulty did you face while studying for the SAT?

My first practice test scores were 470 in English and 530 in Math. My small vocabulary lowered my performance in the English section. Particularly, questions with long passages and exponential functions were my weaknesses. I was more confident in math.

Q: How proficient do you think your English is?

I don’t have any problems with English in everyday life and at school. My GPA is also high. However, the vocabulary level of the SAT is a lot higher.

Q: How come you chose TG SAT Tutoring?

The SAT prep at school did not help a lot. I needed someone’s guidance because I lacked experience. I chose private tutoring because I wanted personalized advice and detailed study strategies.

Q: Why did you choose TestGlider among various SAT tutoring options?

I chose TestGlider because it offers a personalized tutoring session along with 17 sets of SAT practice tests.

Q: What was the TestGlider SAT tutoring session like?

I needed to improve my score quickly, so my tutor designed curriculums for each subject. For English, every lesson included a vocabulary test and reviewing of the TestGlider mock test exam. My tutor gave me many tips for actual tests along with explanations about basic concepts of reading and writing. For math, every lesson focused on solving questions and strategies.

Also, my tutor gave me approaches to each subject. I thought I had to focus on English, but my tutor advised me to focus more on my weakness in math first.

Q: What did you like about your TestGlider tutor?

My tutor gave efficient study strategies as well as detailed explanations. Also, I was provided with recommendations for SAT prep books. Thanks to my tutor, I was able to improve my score in a short time.

Additionally, my tutor gave me valuable advice on U.S. college programs such as how many AP courses to take or how to balance STEM and non-STEM courses. It was very informative because it was from someone with real experience

Q: How did you like TestGlider’s Digital SAT mock tests?

They helped a lot in that they are similar to actual Digital SATs. Also, they offered sufficient opportunities to practice. When I first switched from a paper-based test to a digital one, I was bewildered because I knew little about how to deal with it.

The analysis reports were very beneficial, too. Based on them, I could manage my time better during the test and got motivation from the list of colleges I can apply to.
